Only one aircraft of this type was built, since it was for the special purpose of full scale aerodynamic research at R.A.E., Farnborough. In addition to the aeroplane there were many alternative components supplied of different geometry, for example, the fuselage could be altered by bay insertion to different lengths and control surfaces changed to vary the area. The Ape first flew on 5th January 1926.
